parallel flamingo
august 2024 | “Arts Alive!” at Chesterwood
Drawing inspiration from Tableaux Vivants ("Living Pictures"), this piece takes this parlor game to the lawn. Exploring space and perspective, the dancers embodied characters from Jules-Ernest Livernois' "Statuary Group," an 1893 photograph of a Tableau Vivant. Inspired by fantastical scenes of play like that of the croquet game in Alice in Wonderland, the piece evolves to use lawn games as fodder for movement inspiration, as well as shapes of lawn ornaments, including flamingos, gnomes, and garden statues.

duet on the veranda
july 2023 | “Arts Alive!” at Chesterwood
This duet was inspired by historic photos of two young people tenderly interacting on the veranda at Chesterwood. The piece plays with the photo’s sense of timelessness, intimacy, whimsy, and mystery, drawing on the reverence of a French folk tune as the soundscape.

april 2021 | Screendance, filmed at U-M
This piece explores memories; the rooted realness of some, the fantasy of others. Rooted in tender human interactions and polished with fantastical happenings and transformations, this piece brings the viewer along on a cathartic journey, unearthing what we choose to push away, and what we choose to invite in.
